Not Ready for Summer to End

After much procrastinating and excuse-making, I have finally decided to throw my two cents worth into the blogosphere. Why not? I like to write and this is a good way to share my thoughts with others.

My hope is that you’ll find this blog informative, insightful and maybe even amusing. I will post periodically, shooting for weekly posts. That being said, here goes…

With summer fast coming to a close, it makes me think of all the kids going back to school. As adults, few of us have summers off. We work year-round and, if we’re lucky, get three to four weeks of vacation a year.

Kids, on the other hand, have the chance to relax, recharge, and explore their interests through any number of camps and summer programs. It’s hard to feel burned out on school in September when you’ve been playing for three months.

So, maybe there’s a lesson adults can glean from this. While most of us don’t have the luxury of a three-month break, much less a three-week break, we can create a mini version of it, starting right now.

Maybe you got into a rut this summer, one hot and humid day feeling like all the others. Maybe you’ve been focusing too much on your job or career. Whatever the case, we can use the last few weeks of summer to seize the opportunities still available to us: several beaches within a few hours drive; a long weekend (Labor Day) coming up; that gas grill in the backyard; and the fact that it stays light outside until 8 pm.

Carpe diem. Do something to relax and recharge. Look at the next few weeks as your chance to “play” a little before autumn begins, when the days get shorter, the nights cooler and the idea of vacation looms far off in the distance.
